Waxing

Waxing

Why wax in the first place?     back to top
Waxing is one of the best ways to temporarily remove unwanted hair. It is
more effective than shaving because it removes hair from the roots, not just from
the skin’s surface. Over time, hair in waxed areas regrows lighter and sparser or not at all.

Even fine hair shadows the face, distorting and aging your features. Waxing the brows opens up the eyes, providing a non-surgical facelift. You keep the hair on your head well-maintained, so why not everywhere else?

What areas of the body can be waxed?     back to top
The wax can be used on almost any part of the body as needed. It is wise to test a small area first for sensitivity. Some frequently waxed areas for women are legs, underarms, bikini line, eyebrows and face. For men: chest, leg, arms, and back. The exceptions for waxing are the beards and inside the ears.

Does waxing have to hurt?     back to top
Many clients use a product called RELAX AND WAX NO SCREAM CREAM to ease the pain/discomfort up to 80%. NO SCREAM CREAM is a topical anesthetic lotion that absorbs into the skin and will not interfere with your waxing service. Apply 30 to 45 minutes prior to your waxing and relax. NO SCREAM CREAM is not messy, greasy, nor will it harm your clothing. Available for $14.95 and lasts 2-5 waxings depending on what part of the body it's used on.

You will never want to be waxed again without it.

How long will the results last?     back to top
After a client’s first waxing, the results can last 3 to 6 weeks depending on the individual’s hair re-growth. In most cases, hair growth is minimal during the first week or two and noticeably increases in the third and fourth week. Heat stimulates hair growth, therefore hair grows quicker in the summer than in the winter. With regular waxing the length of time between treatments will increase. Continued waxing results in sparse hair re-growth.

Will the hair grow back thicker?     back to top
Absolutely not. It might seem so because you will be accustomed to a hairless zone, and new hair will be intolerable. Usually, regrowth will be finer, thinner and slower. Eventually, hair growth may stop altogether.

Are there any health precautions to keep in mind?     back to top
VERY IMPORTANT: Some physicians do not recommend waxing for persons suffering from diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection. Waxing is never done on clients taking Accutane and is not recommended for clients using Retin A, Renova, Differin or other types of skin thinning acne medications. Please read the label carefully and consult your dermatologist if you are taking any medication or using any topical cream that contains these medications. Individuals do react differently to these medications and sometimes waxing can be done if proper patch testing is completed.

Also, please advise your esthetician if you are allergic to any foods - because if you can't eat it, you shouldn't put the extracts on your skin. Please be completely honest with your Skin Care Therapist about all allergies and medications you are taking - it is for your protection.

What are possible side effects of waxing and how can they be minimized?     back to top
Although we can not predict or guarantee who may react, most clients do not experience reactions beyond redness and minor irritation. Hair may break at the root during waxing, causing some hairs to grow out faster. Please follow these guidelines to minimize irritation and possible break outs.

  • Avoid the sun immediately after waxing and please wear sun screen; recently waxed areas are prone to hyperpigmentation (permanent darkening of the skin) if exposed to the sun.
  • Avoid heavy exercise for at least 10 hours after waxing.
  • Avoid saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and other heated sources for at least 48 hours.
  • Do not use exfoliating products (AHAs, scrubs, etc) and loofas until at least 24 hours after waxing.
  • Avoid tight clothing after waxing, especially in the waxed areas. Tight clothing may result in irritation and ingrown hairs
  • Regular exfoliation may be helpful especially on leg and arm areas.
  • Routine waxing helps the skin get accustomed to the procedure and may minimize irritation
  • Unfortunately, no shower or oral sex for 10 hours after a Brazilian.

Products are available that can be applied topically to avoid in-grown hairs and condition the skin for better waxing results.

How long does waxing take?     back to top
Depending on the body part and the density of the hair growth, your waxing appointment will take between fifteen minutes and one hour.

What can you expect from a Standard Bikini Wax vs a Brazilian Bikini Wax?     back to top
A standard bikini wax is more conservative and generally involves removing hair to just inside the panty or swimsuit line. Hair removal is limited to the front of your body only and does not include the legs or abdomen.

The Brazilian technique has gained in popularity and involves hair removal around the anus, perineum and vagina, leaving only a small strip of hair or no hair at all. This is a very intimate type of waxing and will only be performed after careful consultation. Another option is to gradually remove more hair after each appointment until a Brazilian look is achieved.

How closely you trim, shave or wax your pubic hair is a personal preference. You should do whatever makes you comfortable, whether it's a bare look or a more natural look.

Brazilian waxing refers to hair removal around the anus, perineum and vagina. To some people it means removing all the hair from the bikini area, and to others it means removing everything but a strip in the front. Brazilian waxing: why go to this extreme?     back to top
It allows women to comfortably wear revealing swimwear and lingerie.

What do I wear during Brazilian waxing?     back to top
If you are comfortable, the Brazilian wax will be done without any draping. A towel will be available for draping if you prefer.

What is the procedure for Brazilian bikini waxing?     back to top
To begin, the hair is snipped with scissors, if necessary, and then wax is applied a little at a time. The hair is removed and the procedure continues. The wax used for this procedure is a no-strip wax, meaning it is applied to the hair to be removed, it "shrink-wraps" around the hairs, and is pulled off after it dries. The wax is made for sensitive skin, so it's great for bikini/Brazilian waxing. While waxing, it's best to pull the skin tight, so you may be asked to help stabilize an area with your hand. Stray hairs may also be tweezed.

After the hairs are removed, a first-aid solution containing lavender is applied to help soothe the area. It is a botanical solution, so please advise your skin care therapist if you are allergic to any foods - because if you can't eat it, you shouldn't put the extracts on your skin.

Lypossage

Why do I have cellulite, lumps and bulges?     back to top
The fatty tissue of your body acts as its "toxic waste disposal site," where substances that it cannot metabolize are dumped. This congested tissue has poor blood circulation (you'll note that cellulite prone areas are cool to the touch). Lymphatic flow may also be restricted by tight undergarments and pantyhose.

Where does this technique come from?     back to top
The treatment is a specific blend of massage modalities that derive from physical therapy, including lymphatic drainage and deep tissue release. It was created by Charles W. Wiltsie III, a nationally recognized massage therapy educator and practitioner. Mr Wiltsie conducted a year long study of 100 female subjects that documented the effectiveness ofthe technique, which was published in Massage and Bodywork magazine in 1999. In the study, notable results included an average inch loss per thigh of almost 1.5 inches.

How does it work?     back to top
Lypossage cleanses the body of stagnant, stalled lymphatic fluid (lymphoedema) that can create the lumps and bulges we know as figure imbalance. The deeper Lypossage strokes break up adhesions under the skin that can contribute to the dimpled, uneven appearance of cellulite. Lypossage also tones the muscles, lifting and firming sagging tissue.

What parts of the body respond to Lypossage?     back to top
Lypossage is performed on the lower body, including the buttocks, hips, thighs and lower abdomen, as well as the upper body, including the arms, and the face, neck and head. Lypossage has some of its most dramatic effects on areas prone to sagging, such as the lower face and neck, as well as the buttocks and upper thighs.

I've heard about machines that do this, too. Why would I choose Lypossage?     back to top
While both approaches deliver gratifying results, Lypossage appeals to the person who prefers to have a treatment performed by hand, rather than with a machine. It also must be performed by a trained massage therapist; there are no such restrictions on the operators of body contouring machines.

Is it safe?     back to top
Lypossage is a non-invasive, natural health treatment that helps to cleanse the body of toxins and retained fluids. Most clients find that Lypossage enhances their energy and mental clarity. While there are some contraindications for specific medical conditions, Lypossage can be safely experienced by most healthy individuals. It is much safer than surgical procedures such as liposuction. However, for those who opt for a more dramatic surgical result, Lypossage can be very beneficial before and after the liposuction procedure.

Who can perform my Lypossage treatments?     back to top
Lypossage practitioners are specially trained massage and body therapists who have learned this extraordinary hands-on technique and are licensed to practice under the Lypossage name.

How are my treatments scheduled?     back to top
Treatments last about 30 minutes and are performed in a series of 18 over the course of six weeks. It's important to note that for most clients, it takes about 8-10 sessions before the results of the initial treatments become noticeable. After that, progress can often be quite dramatic. Combining Lypossage with compression wraps further enhances your results. What are some typical results, and how will I know what mine are?

While results vary, cumulative dimension loss over five key measurement points averaged 6.75 inches in the original study. It is not uncommon to find cumulative inch loss of up to 11". One Client in the study lost almost 3" in her waist measurement alone. Most women find that they will drop one to two dress sizes without a reduction in their weight.

Your Lypossage practitioner will weigh, photograph and measure you before you begin your program and at key intervals to enable you to track your progress.

Is there a special diet or exercise program?     back to top
Though the individuals in the Lypossage study were restricted from initiating any new diet or exercise program during the course of their treatments, we find that most clients become so inspired by their Lypossage results that they readily adopt lifestyle changes that help them progress even more rapidly. A diet rich in whole, organic.foods and regular body movement will contribute to a terrific outcome. Avoiding foods containing refined sugar, preservatives, hormones, caffeine and salt will help keep your newly detoxified body in the best shape possible. Drinking copious amounts of water is key to keeping the body cleansed.

What should I do on my own to enhance the results of my treatments?     back to top
We recommend that you follow an at-home body care regimen, including a special treatment product to stimulate circulation in cellulite-prone areas and a glycolic body lotion to improve skin texture and elasticity. The Lypossage Home Care Collection provides state of the art spa formulas that will help bring your skin and body into beautiful condition.

What do I need to do to maintain my results?     back to top
A program of monthly or bi-monthly maintenance treatments will help you retain your results. Many Lypossage clients repeat their program annually.
